India ''Chakra Snanam'' performed
Thousands of devotees took a holy dip in ''Padmasarovaram,'' the temple tank of Goddess Padmavathi at Tiruchanur, during ''Chakra Snanam'' performed on the last day of the nine-day Kartika Brahmotsavams, today. The event, referred as ''Panchami Theertham,'' marks the ''incarnation" of the Goddess in a lotus in the said tank. As part of the three-hour colourful ritual, priests performed ''Snapana Tirumanjanam'' (celestial bath) to the deity. Nearly one lakh devotees, who came from the neighboring states of Tamil Naidu and Karnataka, took a holy dip in the tank at the same time. Earlier, in accordance with age-old tradition, the priests brought new silk clothes, turmeric and vermilion powder from Tirumala temple on a caparisoned elephant and presented them to the Goddess for the celestial bath as a gift from Lord Venkateswara. -- (UNI) -- 21MS9.xml
