Illegal mining by OMC: CBI inquiry demanded
Mysore | Saturday, Nov 21 2009 IST

Former Minister and Mysore MP A H Vishwanath today urged Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa to hand over all cases related to illegal mining in the state to CBI on the lines of Andhra Pradesh government. Talking to newspersons here, he said the Andhra Pradesh government had sought a CBI inquiry into the illegal mining activities by the Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) owned by Karnataka Tourism Minister Mr Jarandhana reddy.

Though the decision was welcomed by Mr Reddy, the Chief Minister was defending it, he added.

The state government should seek a CBI inquiry into the illegal mining in this state also, he said.

Alleging that the OMC had committed economic offences and the issue was very serious in nature, he said the Centre should look into the illegal mining on the borders of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Stating that he would write letters to Union Home Minister P Chidamabaram and Finance Minister Pranab Mukharji in this regard, he said the issue would also be raised in Parliament in the coming days.
