India Nitish reiterates demand for Kosi rehabilitation package
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today reiterated his demand for approval of Rs 14,800 crore rehabilitation package by the Centre for flood-affected Kosi area in North Bihar. Talking to mediapersons here, he said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had declared the catastrophic flood in North Bihar last year as ''national calamity'', but despite the fact the Centre was not taking any interest in approving the rehabilitation package of Rs 14,800 crore requested by the state government long back. The Chief Minister welcomed Rs 7,266 crore package granted by the Centre for Bundelkhand and said Bihar should also be taken care of. Expressing his shock over the killing of two people in Singhbhum district of Jharkhand in Naxal attack, Mr Kumar said such forces should be dealt with sternly. In Bihar, the NDA government was executing special welfare scheme for rehabilitation of Naxalites and bringing them into mainstream of the society, he added. -- (UNI) -- 20CA62.xml
