Consumer price for agri, rural labourers up by 7 points

All India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Agricultural Labourers (AL) and Rural Labourers (RL) for October 2009 increased by seven points each to stand at 522 points for AL and 521 points for RL.

The rise in index (Base:1986-87=100) varied from State to State. In case of AL, four States reflected an increase in index between 11 to 15 points; seven States between six to 10 points and nine States between one to five points. Punjab with 579 points topped the index table whereas Manipur with the index level of 445 points stood at the bottom.

In case of RL, the increase in index ranged between 11 to 13 points in four States, between six to 10 points in eight States and between one to five points in eight States. Punjab with 579 points topped the index table whereas Manipur with the index level of 446 points stood at the bottom.

The CPI numbers of Uttar Pradesh for AL and RL registered the highest increase of 15 and 13 points respectively mainly due to increase in the prices of rice, wheat atta, pulses, onion, turmeric and vegetables & fruits. Point to point rate of inflation based on the CPI-AL and CPI-RL increased from 13.19 per cent and 12.97 per cent in September 2009 to 13.73 per cent and 13.51 per cent respectively in October 2009. The rates of inflation during October, 2008 were 11.14 per cent for both the series.

All India CPI-AL (General Index) was 515 in September and 522 in October, while CPI-AL (food) was 525 in September and 534 in October. All India CPI-AL (Pan, Supari) was 612 in September and 621 in October, CPI-AL ( Fuel and Light) was 496 in September and 502 in October, CPI-AL (Clothing, Bedding and Footwear) was 441 in month of September 2009 and 442 in October 2009. CPI-AL( Miscellaneous was 482 in September 2009 and 483 in October 2009.

All India CPI-RL (General Index) was 514 in September and 521 in October, while CPI-RL (food) was 525 in September and 534 in October.

All India CPI-RL( Pan, Supari) was 614 in September and 623 in October, CPI-RL( Fuel and Light) was 496 in September and 501 in October, CPI-RL (Clothing, Bedding and Footwear) was 463 in September and 464 in October. CPI-RL( Miscellaneous) was 480 in September and 481 in October.
