India NCC shooters excelled in National Shooting championships
Shooters from Chandigarh NCC Directorate returned to the city today after reaping a rich haul of 10 medals at the 53rd National Shooting Championship which concluded yesterday at Jalandhar. Total medal tally of the shooters was three gold, three silver and for bronze. Cadet Shikha Dhall of Khalsa College, Sector-26 bagged the individual gold medal by securing 588 points out of 600 in .22 pistil prone category. She also bagged a gold, a silver and a bronze medals in team events. Cadet Shivendu Sharma of DAV College, Sector-10 bagged individual iilver in 50m Free Pistol category and team gold in the same category. Two Ggld medals were won by the Junior Women team in .22 Peep Sight Prone category and Junior Men team in 50m. Brig Rajendra Singh, Deputy Director General, NCC Directorate congratulated the team for their excellent performance and exhorted them to continue their good work for the forthcoming National Games and trials for Commonwealth Games. Col Dharmender Gupta, Group Commander, Chandigarh NCC said that the good results achieved by the team are due to the hardwork put in by the cadets and the focused dedication shown by them. Col Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Commanding Officer said that in this team there were cadets who took up shooting as a sport in June this year and in such a short time have achieved such a good performance at national level. The Directorate is supporting the cadets by providing them with weapons, ammunition and administrative support. Last year three cadets namely Cadet Hema KC, Cadet Shikha Dhall and Cadet Meera represented India in various tournaments held at Islamabad, West Germany and Czechoslovakia. -- (UNI) -- 20SPD31.xml
