Case on cops in suicide case
Cuddalore | Friday, Nov 20 2009 IST

A case has been registered against five police constables attached to the Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) in connection with the death of a woman in 2004.

Police sources here today said on April 30, 2004, PEW constables had come to the house of one Shanmugam, a bootlegger, to question him in connection with a case.

As he was not there, they took his wife Shanti to the Chidambaram Police Station.

When protesting locals laid siege, the police allowed Shanti to return home.

However, she allegedly committed suicide on returning home. An inquiry by the Sub-Collector was later ordered.

The Sub-Collector submitted his report following which the case was registered.
