Chautala calls for closing of malls in Haryana
Karnal | Friday, Nov 20 2009 IST

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in Haryana Assembly, Om Prakash Chautala has advocated closure of all malls in the state ''as they impinge on the rights of small time shopkeepers and traders''.

''Where would they go if the malls sell fruits and vegetables and even needles,'' the INLD leader said interacting with newsmen here today.

He said the UPA government had made the life of the common man miserable as it had failed to control the prices of essential commodities.

Answering a query, he announced that the INLD would not fight the ensuing Municipal Elections in the state on the party symbol as they would fight these polls on local issues.

Mr Chautala also maintained that making of nine Parliamentary Secretaries by the Haryana Chief Minister was illegal as only thirteen ministers could be made as per law.

''This is unprincipled as in the past, there was only one Parliamentary Secretary,'' Mr Chautala said adding that he would take the matter to court.

On SYL issue, he said that it was a shame that due to the apathetic attitude of the Congress, the share of water due to Haryana, was being allowed to flow into Pakistan.

He said the demand of Rs 280 per quintal by cane farmers was quite less as only 14 Kg of sugar is produced out of one quintal of cane.
