India Punjab Police suspends Khali, orders inquiry
The Punjab Armed Police (PAP) have suspensded WWF champ, Dalip Singh Rana alias the Great Khali for remaining absent from duty and have ordered a departmental inquiry into his case, perhaps to give him another chance to explain his 'conduct' and remain in service. The suspension orders were given yesterday and today the PAP authorities directed a SP ranking officer to conduct an inquiry into the reasons behind Khali remaining absent from duty even after he was asked to report for duty in December last year. The inquiry will be conducted by SP, Shammi Kumar of the PAP. Confirming the developments, PAP Inspector General (IG) G S Sahota said here today that Khali was suspended as he failed to respond to the order to rejoin duty. He pointed out that even yesterday the wrestler who was in Jalandhar did not bother to contact the PAP. An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) with the 7th Battalion of PAP, Khali has been marked absent from duty since December last year and has exhausted all categories of leave applicable under the rules. The file pertaining to Khali was sent to the IGs office by the 7th Battalion Commandant Arunpal Singh after the wrestler applied for five years 'extra ordinary leave' last month. The IG rejected this request as 'extra ordinary leave' was not permissible to the wrestler. Arunpal Singh, when contacted, said the suspension was ordered after considering all the legal aspects. Asked as to why Khali's services were not terminated, Singh said, ''the inquiry ordered is a quasi judicial procedure, giving an opportunity to the wrestler to present his view point''. He made it clear that Khali would have to appear before the inquiry officer within a period of six months or else the PAP would be well within its rights to take any action. -- (UNI) -- 20SPD22.xml
