Man acquitted in rape case in Surat

The Surat District and Sessions Court has acquitted a man, who had been framed into a false rape case by a girl and his neighbour, as he had rivalry with them.

Krishna Upadhyay (38), a resident of Althan Tenement in Bhatar, was arrested for allegedly raping a 19-year-old girl on July 14, 2006. According to the complaint, the girl, who worked as maid in Upadhyay's home, became pregnant after the incident. She had also given birth to a child at the New Civil Hospital.

Upadhyay said false statements of the girl's parents and neighbour along with the false hospital certificates were presented in the Court to malign his image.

However, after three years of legal tangle and hardship, he was acquitted by the Court.
