Supporters of K'taka CM arrested

A large number of supporters of Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa were arrested in Medak District when they were proceeding to Hyderabad to rescue the Legislators, supporting the Karnataka Tourism Minister G Janardhana Reddy, who was campaigning for the ouster of the Chief Minister.

According to police nearly 1,000 people, including the former legislators Shanker Goud, R Siddiah and S Khanduri, were taken into custody when they tried to move to a star hotel where the Legislators were holed up.

The supporters were prevented by the police at RTC check-post and they were taken to Chirag Pally police station on the city outskirts.

Insisting on a leadership change, the rebels, camping here in a star hotel, wanted Karnataka Assembly Speaker Jagadish Shattar to succeed.

Mr Reddy, who held consultations with supoprting MLAs, including seven Ministers, at a star hotel in the Hitech city, told newspersons yesterday that ''no compromise formuala had been arrived at so far,'' stating that there was no change in their stand on the leadership change.
