CPM leader killed, Buddhadeb still camping in Midnapore
Midnapore | Sunday, Nov 8 2009 IST

Suspected Maoists gunned down yet another CPI(M) leader in Chandra village, only 20 km from here under Sadar Kotwali police station last night, even as Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, along with the DGP, Chief Secretary and Home Secretary, are presently in Midnapore Circuit House.

Superintendent of Police, West Midnapore, MK Varma today said Nabakumar Singh, a local committee member of the CPI(M) of Chandra, was called out from his home by unknown miscreants who took him to a nearby field and pumped four rounds into his body, killing him on the spot.

Singh had fled his home two months ago in fear of the Maoists and had come back to his home only last night.

Police reached the area this morning and took his body to Midnapore Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) for post-mortem.

Subhas Soren, an ex-MLA of the CPI(M), who was injured by the suspected Maoists in Gopiballavpur and transferred to MMCH last night, is out of danger now, doctors said. He was hit by bullets on his waist by the ultras.

The Chief Minister, who spent the night in Midnapore Circuit House amid tight security, will meet the BDOs of 10 affected blocks in the Junglemahal areas today and discuss in detail the developmental activities in the tribal areas, District Magistrate NS Nigam said.
