Centre decides to take action against corrupt officials

According to the Union Law Ministry sources, the government has decided to put all the corruption cases on fast track court for expeditious disposal of the corruption cases.

Union Law Minster M Veerappa Moily has already made it clear that there is an urgent need to put fear of law in the mind of the corrupt.

Presently, there is a general impression among the people that nothing will happen if they indulge in corruption as these cases remain pending in the court for decades together.

Dr Moily has also decided to bring a Bill in the winter session of Parliament for setting up of commercial courts to deal with corporate cases involving the amount of rupees two crore and above since several lakh crores of government money is lying locked in corporate disputes and the government wants speedy disposal of such cases for speedy recovery of public money lying blocked in such cases.

The government in its bit to bring more transparency in the judiciary is going to make it mandatory for the judges of the superior court to declare their individual assets.

For this purpose, the Centre is bringing in a legislation titled 'Judges Standards and Accountability Bill'.

The procedure of impeachment of judges found indulging in corruption and judicial misconduct has proved to be a total flop as not even a single High Court or Supreme Court judge has been removed through impeachment during last the 62 years of independence.

Dr Moily, who is making a sincere effort to reign in the deliquent public servants, also wants to streamline the procedure for selection of judges of superior court.
