India Three arrested for beating two Naga students
After Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit personally intervened in the matter, three people have been arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly beating two Naga students in the Kotla Mubarakpur area. An official statement from the chief minister's office said Saturday: "Delhi chief minister's office has been informed that the Delhi Police has arrested three youths in connection with beating of two Naga students on Nov 5, 2009." It said Yun Sun, student of Dayal Singh College and Nuito Chisi, student of Vardhman Medical college, were beaten up with sticks and bricks, by four to five people after some minor argument. The duo were taken to a nearby hospital where medical tests were done. Dikshit's office intervened in the case requesting a speedy investigation. "Three youth - Shahrukh Khan, Sumit and Suresh - have been arrested. They all are in the age group of 19-20 and reside in Ravi Dass Nagar area at Kotla Mubarakpur," according to the statement. "A senior officer from the chief minister's office has also spoken to one of the office bearers of Naga Students Union, Lucky Mukato and has assured of all possible help in this case. He has also taken up the matter with police to ensure proper protection and intensify patrolling," the statement added. Office bearers of the North Eastern Students Union (NESU) along with three member of parliament - Oscar Fernandes, Takom Sanjoy and Thokchom Meniya - met Dikshit earlier this week. Dikshit had assured the students from the northeastern states that all possible measures would be taken to provide security to them. Recently, the students from the northeastern states held a demonstration against the rising crime against their community in the national capital.
