India No TN nod for new dam in 1979: MK
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today described as untrue, his Kerala counterpart V S Achuthadanan claim that the State had given its consent for a new dam three decades ago. In an epistle to partymen, Mr Karunanidhi disputed the claim of Mr Achuthanandam that the Tamil Nadu government had in 1979 agreed for a new dam to be constructed across mullapeiryar dam and said th reports were untrue. Tracing the history of the issue, the Chief Minister said during the 1979 talks the State had never agreed for the proposal to construct a new dam. ''If the Tamil Nadu government had then in 1979 agreed for its there was no need for the State for resort to such a step (to move the supreme court)'', he said, adding, this clearly showed that tamil nadu hd not acceeded to such request.
