Ranchi | Saturday, Nov 7 2009 IST

The Income Tax department today asserted that former chief minister Madhu Koda, now undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital, was much better now and would continue interrogation from where the process got disrupted after the former chief minister fell sick on November 3.

''We have talked to the hospital authorities and are now again there (to the hospital),'' Mr Ajit Kumar Srivastava, Additional Director (Investigation) of IT, told a news conference this evening here.

Despite repeated queries, Mr Srivastava refused to disclose if the IT was empowered to arrest anybody in this connection only, adding the moment Koda was discharged from the hospital ''we will continue from where we have left....'' IT Commissioner Ajit Kumar also arrived here from Patna to peruse files regarding regarding mines and iron ores in connection with the case.

Mr Kumar said the files were dated back to 2004 but refused to disclose anything as it might disturb the process of investigation.

He only said the scrutiny of the files was in process of investigation.

Mr Srivastava said the IT today recorded statement of two more perosons - Bhim Singh and Basant Bhattacharya - and two other persons whose identity was not disclosed.

Regarding rest of the four persons who were advised to appear before the IT by yesterday, he said next step would be made known on November nine.
