Four of family killed as truck smashes auto

Four members of a family, including two children, were killed when a truck rammed into the autorickshaw in which they were travelling near Bahalgarh village on the GT road in the district yesterday. According to police sources, the owner of the newly-purchased autorickshaw Sajid Mohammed of Khewra village had taken his younger brother Kasim, six year-old nephew Shoheb, two-year-old Sahiba and an another child, to a joy ride yesterday to Bahalgarh. On the journey, Sajid was forced to apply brakes when a tractor suddenly came in front of the autorickshaw. A truck close behind rammed into the autoricksaw, crushing it badly. While Kasim, Shoheb and Sahiba died on the spot, Sajid succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. One unidentified injured child was still hospitalised, police said. The truck driver absconded from the scene. A case has been registered in Rai police station.
