Sporting hold Mohan Bagan to 2-2 draw

Medio Joseph Pereira's 44th minute goal helped Sporting Club de Goa hold Mohan Bagan to a 2-2 draw in the seventh round of the ONGC I- League football match at Nehru stadium Fatorda today.

With this draw, Mohan Bagan increased their points tally to 10 points while Sporting took their tally to three points from three drawn matches.

All the four goals came in the first half. Nathanial Amos in 23rd minute and Joseph Pereira in the 44th minute scored for Sporting Club de Goa while Branco Cardozo in the 34th th minute and Marcos Pereira in the 42nd minute scored for Mohan Bagan.

In a fast paced first half, the home team drew first blood in the 23rd minute through Nathanial Amos. It was a defensive lapse by Bagan's right-back Surkumar.

Stung by the singh debacle, Bagan started attacking and restored parity in the 34th minute through Branco off a well measured pass from Snehasis Chakraborty. Inspired by the equaliser, the visitors continued their attack and took the lead in the 34th minute through Marcos Pereira after collecting a pass from James Singh. However, the lead was short lived as Sporting in the counter attack accelerated the pace of their game and level the score a minute before the breather through Joseph Pereira off a pass from Amos to make it 2-2 at half time.

Both the teams made some desperate attempts for the match winner in the second half. In the 54th minute, Mohan Bagan Branco Cardozo's well attempted try was well saved by Sporting goalkeepr Luis Barreto while in the 59th minute Sporting's Samananda intiated a good move and passed to Joseph Pereira whose attempt was beatifully saved by Bagan goalkeeper Shiiton Paul.

Sporting had another chance to score in the 78th minute but Amos' well attempted try was again saved by Shilton Paul.

Sporting's Joseph Pereira was adjudged the man of the match for his fine performance.
