India Rains claim one life
One person was killed even as normal life was disrupted heavy rains continued to lash the Union Territory of Puducherry and it's suburbs, under the influence of the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal. According to police, the body of Veerappan(72) of Ariyankuppam was found floating in a tank near an arrack shop. It was suspected that he might have fallen into the tank which was full following the rains, in an inebriated condition. Several low lying areas were inundated due to the continuous rains. Efforts by the municipalities and Local administration department to pump out water from the residential areas was on. Relief measures had being taken up on a warfooting by the administration. All the tanks and lakes here were almost full due to heavy inflows. Crops in several hectares were submerged. Puducherry received 74 MM of rain in the last 24 hours ending at 0830 hours today.
