India New low pressure to bring more rains; life crippled
Continuous rains since last night battered the city, its suburbs and several parts of Tamil Nadu throwing normal life out of gear, even as Chief Minister M Karunanidhi chaired a meeting with officials on the steps to be taken to tackle the fury of North-east monsoon. The incessant rains for the past three days, became vigorous last evening and the continuous downpour saw Chennai city, its suburbs and several parts of coastal districts in deluge crippling normal life. The weather office said the low pressure trough over the South West Bay has further intensified, promising widespread rains in the coastal districts of the state and fairly widespread in interior Tamil Nadu during the next 48 hours. A new low pressure area has formed over the Bay near Kanniyakumari, which was expected to bring more rains in coastal and interior Tamil Nadu. For the third successive day, schools and educational institutions in various districts declared a holiday due to the heavy rains. The city and its suburbs too will experience widespread rainfall during the next 48 hours, a weather office spokesperson said. -- (UNI) -- 07MS3.xml
