Mining Policy should not affect land owners: NCP
Shillong | Saturday, Nov 7 2009 IST

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Meghalaya said land owners should not be affected while implementing the proposed scientific mining policy in the state.

Addressing a press conference here yesterday, Opposition leader Konrad K Sangma said the party, appreciates the government's move to implement the proposed scientific mining policy to avoid health and environmental hazards but it should not disturb the land owners.

NCP president W R Kharlukhi said, the land and mines are owned by the tribal people and the government cannot meddle with the ownership of the same.

The leader of the opposition also appreciated the government's move to find an amicable solution to the Uranium mining issue in the state.

'NCP is in favour of constituting All-party committee on Uranium mining to address the issue in West khasi Hills district of the state', the NCP leader added.
