12 percent polling in Rajasthan (Lead)
Jaipur |Saturday, 2009 1:35:05 PM IST

Brisk polling was reported Saturday in Rajasthan's two assembly constituencies of Todabhim and Salumber where the main battle is between the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Long queues were seen at polling stations. The state election department said over 12 percent voted in the first three hours of polling.

The by-elections were called after legislator Kirori Lal Meena, an independent from Todabhim, and Raghuveer Meena from Salumber vacated their seats after getting elected to the LokSabha.

In Todabhim, the fight is mainly between Congress's Shivdayal Meena and BJP's Ramesh Chand Meena. Congress candidate Basanti and BJP's Amrat Lal are fighting it out in Salumbar.
