India 20% turnout in Kerala Assembly bypolls in initial hrs
An estimated 19.37 per cent of voters exercised their franchise in the first three hours of polling for by-elections to three Assembly constituencies of Kannur, Ernakulam and Alappuzha. According to Election Commission sources, Kannur recorded 19.96 per cent voter turnout, Ernakulam 18.43 per cent and Alapuzzha 20.08 per cent till 1100 hrs. In spite of the unprecedented rain, voters were seen at the polling stations from the morning itself. In Kannur, United Democratic Front(UDF) candidate A P Abdulla Kutty exercised his franchise at Radha Vilasam School, Pallikkunnu and BJP candidate K Ranjith cast his vote at Palliyanmool North L P School. Union Minister of State for Railways E Ahamed also exercised his franchise at Anayidukku UP School. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere.
