Congress supporter shot dead in Bharthana area of UP
Etawah | Saturday, Nov 7 2009 IST

A Congress supporter was shot dead in the Bharthana Assembly constituency where by-election is being held today.

Police said Guddu Tiwari (40) was shot dead outside his house in Khudakot area late last night.

Sources said the deceased had campaigned for the Congress candidate in the area for the last couple of days.

Tension prevailed in the area after the murder, but the polling was underway on a peaceful note since morning, police said.

By-election in Bharthana is being held following the resignation of Samajwadi party president Mulayam Singh Yadav after he was elected to the Lok Sabha from Mainpuri parliamentary seat.
