India Orissa to construct 6,000 km road under PMSY
Orissa government today decided to provide road connectivity to 1053 habitats at a cost of Rs 2,500 crore by constructing 1,400 roads with a length of 6,000 km during the current year under the Pradhan Mantri Sadak Yojana (PMSY). The decision was taken at a high-level review meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, to assess the progress of work under the PMSY. The meeting also decided to make necessary Amendment in the PWD code to enable the B Class contractors to participate in the tender process of PMSY work and expedite the work. The decision was taken as the special class contractors were not participating in the tender of PMSY and the minimum package for participating in the tender process was kept at Rs 50 lakh. The state government had so far utilised more than 97 per cent of the fund received under the scheme. The government had already spent Rs 4,292 crore out of the Rs 4,388 crore, received from the Union government under the scheme, and linked 3,460 villages with roads by constructing 12,529 km of roads. The government had recently amended the PMSY and decided to connect the villages with 500 populations in plain area by road under the scheme and to provide road connectivity to tribal villages with minimum of 250 populations. The rule would be applicable to Samblpur, Deogarh, Gajapati, Rayagada and Malkangiri districts only, the sources said. -- (UNI) -- 05CA53.xml
