Campaign for bypoll ends in HP

Election campaign for the bypoll to Jawali and Rohru seats of State Assembly drew to an end at 1700 hrs here today, State Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Khachi said.

As the major political parties, BJP and Congress, stopped the canvasing at 1700 hrs, the politically abuzz atmosphere experienced a sudden quiet in the both the constituencies which go to the polls on November 7, he said. The results would be declared on November 10, he added. He said that Election Department has already directed the Political functionaries, party workers, Campaign functionaries in both constituency that they should not continue to remain present in the constituency. The CEO informed that restrictions on the presence of political functionaries in constituency after the campaign period is over may not be insisted upon the office-bearer of political party who would be incharge of the State. He further added that such office-bearer of the political party will declare his place of stay in the State Headquarters and his movement during the period in question shall be confined normally between his party office and place of his stay. All political parties/ contesting candidates and their agents had been requested by the CEO to take note of this and ensure compliance. He further informed that Election Commission of India had directed that all District Election and Police Officers shall ensure that all those political functionaries who have been provided security by the state shall not be allowed to remain present in the constituencies in which they are not electors after the period of campaigning is over.

They shall also restrict the movements of such political functionaries in the constituencies in which they are bona fide electors on the day of poll before and after they cast their vote, he stressed.
