Tendulkar crosses 17,000-run mark
Hyderabad | Thursday, Nov 5 2009 IST

Ending a fairly long wait, batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar finally crossed the 17,000-run mark in the the fifth One-day international against Australia here this evening.

Tendulkar came in to bat, needing just seven runs to reach yet another milestone and did not take too long before a smart glance from him completed the formality.

As soon as the master blaster went past the 17,000-run mark, the vociferous Rajiv Gandhi stadium errupted in jubilation. The master blaster is already the leading run-scorer in both Tests (12,777) and ODIs. His illustrious career has seen many milestones being knocked off with every stroke of his bat.

In the 434 ODIs that he has played so far, the Mumbaikar has 44 centuries while his 159-Test career has witnessed 42 hundreds.

Regarded as the best in the business, Tendulkar, who made his ODI debut Pakistan in 1989, is already way ahead of his contemporaries when it comes to scoring runs. Sri Lankan opener Sanath Jayasuriya is next highest scorer but is still way behind Tendulkar with 13,377 runs to his name.
