'Care and Support' programme to continue till 2016

National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) Deputy Director (Care, Support and Treatement) Dr D Bachani today said the''Care and support programme for People Living with HIV in the country would continue till March 2016, with support from Global Fund.'' Delivering the keynote address after inaugurating the two-day convention `Convergence for HIV Care- A National Best Practice Workshop at Snehadaan here, he said 2,70,000 people who were living with HIV were on ART. This number is expected to touch 3 lakh. "We are achieving the target set for March 2012 by March 2010 itself. Stating that the Global Fund would continue its support with a US Dollar 500 million grant for the next six years for care and support,''Dr Bachani called for a sustainable common minimum programme for care and support of People Living with HIV (PLHIV) which can be implemented uniformly across the country.

Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society Project Director R R Jaanu said in Karnataka, the goal was to achieve comprehensive, competent and compassionate care for all those living with HIV and their affected families. This would be done through 34 ART centres, 565 Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (ICTC) and 36 Community Care Centres (CCC), he added.

Talking later, to newspersons Dr Reynold, Director, Karnataka Health Promotion Trust said''a number of organizations were working on care, support and treatment of PLHIV.
