India Chirag United stand a chance to move pole position
Second year on promotion Chirag United have good opportunity to go on pole position when they play struggling Salgaocar on 7th round of ONGC I-League at Barasat stadium in North 24 Parganas tomorrow. Coach Subrata Bhattacharjee inspired his boys telling them to keep an unbeaten tempo and grab full points at home before facing reigning champions Churchill Brothers at away play in Goa on November 13. With three wins and as many draws Chirag United playing country's premier soccer league for second straight year with 12 poitns and are placed second after Dempo on goal difference. Winners of 1998-99 National Football League, Goa outfit now placed on 10th with six points from five plays have struggled with more failure than success stories. Their only surprising 3-2 win verus Sporting Clube de Goa at home was something rewarding after the side elevated to top soccer tournament this year. Newly appointed coach Tim Hankinson so far could not achieve what club officials had expected of him. But going by previous games's results Salgaocar played on equal footing with giants like Dempo and East Bengal and managed to grab one point each. Their only big defeat to Mahindra United 1-4 and 0-0 result at Lajong FC in previous game would prove a tough play ahead for Chirag United. With no problem as such Salgoacar are expected to give a tough fight for local outfit as the Goa players had levelled at fag end with 1-1 in their preveous away match here against East Bengal. Salgaocar now lack a depth in their squad and bank on Chandam Chitrasen, Manjit Singh, Rocus Lamare, Alexandre da Silva and Luciano Sabrosa. -- (UNI) -- 05SPC2.xml
