India CM to go to Delhi tomorrow to seek Central Assistance
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah will leave for New Delhi tomorrow to seek further Central Assistance for drought and flood relief. This would be a follow-up on the memorandum submitted to the Centre on the Central assistance required for drought and flood relief, an official press release here said. The Chief Minister is also likely to call on UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and other Central ministers about the drought and flood relief operations. and the need for further Central assistance. The Central team to assess the damage wraught by the floods,has already toured the affected areas in the state, while the Central team was now touring the areas. The state government has already submitted a report of the total loss/damage due to the recent floods, estimated at Rs 12,824.70 Crore. The other requests included sanction of one lakh additional units under Indira Awas Yojana (IAY), sanction of Rs 500 crore under Central Road Fund and Rs 300 crore as advance for next year's entitlement, Rs 1500 crore under AIBP for Irrigation, Rs 52 crore as additionality under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY), Gadwal Handloom cluster to be taken up under comprehensive handloom cluster development scheme. The special requests included a package for affected fishermen similar to the one given to Tsunami-affected fishermen and extension of subsidised interest rate (3%) scheme to the converted crop loans and charging of interests on a par with the one charged to short term loans. The state government has already requested for Rs 9053.19 crore under National Calamity Contingency Fund as drought relief. The state government has so far sanctioned an amount of Rs 556.96 crore pending receipt of grant from NCCF. The other requests are to extend subsidized interest rate (3%) to the rescheduled crop loans and charging of interest on a par with the one charged to the short term loans, and release of a sum of Rs 68 crore as on additionally either under RKVY funds or any other Central Sector. -- (UNI) -- 05MS36.xml
