Five Uzbek citizens in judicial custody

The Six Uzbek citizens, including a 14-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy, who were detained at the airport here yesterday after being deported from Colombo, for allegedly travelling on passports stolen from Goa, were produced before the Judical magistate Ms Sujatha, here today.

The Magistrate ordered judicial custody of the detenus except the girl. He directed the police to find out the actual age of the girl after verification from a civil surgeon.

Following this, the police took the girl to the Government Headquarters hospital.

Police said they were detained here yesterday soon after they landed by a Sri Lankan Airlines flight .They had planned to leave for the United Kingdom from Colombo. Based on information received from Colombo and a confirmation from the Danish Embassy in New Delhi that the passports used by them were stolen, the six persons were handed over to the airport police station here. The arrested were identified as Jacob and his wife Daniella, Dennis, his wife Maria, and their children, Dina (14) and Aaros (4). Police said they had arrived in India from Moscow last month as tourists. While Jacob and Daniella landed in Mumbai, Dennis and Maria along with their children landed in Goa. The families visited several places in the country, police added.

Police said the immigration authorities in Colombo refused them entry and deported them to Tiruchirapalli.
