Leadership change in K'taka not before high command: Rajnath
New Delhi | Thursday, Nov 5 2009 IST

The issue of change of leadership in Karnataka BJP Legislature party is not before the high command which is hopeful of finding a solution very soon, party President Rajnath Singh today said.

"The crisis would be surely resolved very soon and the media would get to know of it," Mr Singh told mediapersons, after his meeting with Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and senior party leaders M Venkaiah Naidu, Sushma Swaraj and General Secretary Ananth Kumar. Mr Singh said the BJP had "total knowledge" of the situation and he could not be expected to say more on the issue at this juncture.

Mr Singh's statement appears to be at variance with the claims of the loyalists in the state BJP that the demand for a change of leadership has been firmly rejected by the high command. While there appears to be no indication of softening of stance by the Reddy brothers who have raised the banner of revolt claiming the support of 60 MLAs, Karnataka BJP sources contested these claims and said some proposals were worked out for finding a way out of the crisis. "We should not be surprised if there is an announcement by the party leadership within a few hours," party sources claimed. After an hour long meeting, Mr Yeddyurappa and others drove out of the BJP president's house without speaking to the mediapersons.
