26 lakh children to be given polio drops in Haryana
Chandigarh | Thursday, Nov 5 2009 IST

About 26 lakh children up to the age of five years are targeted to be covered under the three-day Sub-National Intensified Pulse Polio Immunisation (IPPI) round in 13 districts of Haryana from November eight.

A spokesman for Haryana Health Department here today said these 13 districts included Ambala, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mewat, Palwal, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Sonipat and Yamunanagar. He said though no confirmed case of polio had so far been reported from any part of the state during 2009, the Centre had decided to cover 13 districts of the state, especially those bordering Uttar Pradesh. As many as 528 cases of polio had so far been confirmed in 2009 all over the country. Of these, most of these cases were from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. ''As Haryana is the bordering state of Uttar Pradesh and many people migrate here from UP, it is very important to implement high quality IPPI round with increased administrative involvement and advocacy to maintain high level of immunity,'' he added.
