CBI team visits crash site, needs more time for probe
Kurnool | Thursday, Nov 5 2009 IST

The multi-disciplinary team of the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI), probing the September 2 helicoptor crash in which late Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and four others were killed, will require more time to complete its probe, CBI Deputy Inspector General V V Lakshminarayana said today.

Mr Lakshminarayana, who along with experts from Bengaluru, visited the crash site at Paviralagutta in the dense Nallamalla forests, told reporters here they had come to gather more information on the crash. He said it would take more time for completion of investigation.

''We are yet to get information recorded in the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR). We are in touch with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in this connection,'' he added.

The CBI was earlier expected to submit its report to the government by November 12.

The multi-disciplinary team includes experts from the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The CBI will probe the incident from all angles and will also look into the airworthiness and maintenance of the helicopter.

The state government, which prima facie felt that it was an accident initially, had subsequently urged the premier investigation agency also to look into the possibility of any conspiracy behind the mishap.

The state government had also constituted a two-member expert committee for an independent probe into the crash, which had also claimed the lives of late Chief Minister's special secretary, chief security officer and two pilots.

The Chief Minister was going to Chittoor from Hyderabad for a 'mass contact' programme to see for himself the effectiveness of the delivery mechanism of welfare schemes to the intended beneficiaries.
