Joint fight need of the hour to oppose Congress policies:Raja
Puducherry | Thursday, Nov 5 2009 IST

Alleging that the policies of the ruling Congress were anti-farmer and anti-people, CPI National Secretary D Raja (MP) today stressed the need for a joint fight against the harmful policies of the Congress party.

Speaking at a 'Right to Food Security' conference jointly organised by the CPI and CPI(M) here, Mr Raja said the two parties had joined together to oppose the principles of the ruling Congress at several states and in Puducherry. The picketing would be held on November eight and the caders of both the parties were exhorted to to make it a sucess.

The CPI leader said it was the Congress Government, which introduced the new economic policy, globalisation and privatisation in the country and agriculture was neglected. Later, it was the turn of the BJP Government led by A B Vajpayee to ignore agriculture and the Governemnt was thrown away, he added.

Mr Raja alleged that the subsequent UPA Government pretended that it was giving priority to agriculture sector and announced the waiver of loans for agriculturists. The farmers, however, were not benefitted out of it, and the Congress had utilised it for its political propoganda, he said. He said the agriculture is facing crisis in the country and the food grain production was considerably reduced. The Congress cannot not shed its responsibility by citing world nations, he added.
