India J&K player cleared of charges of carrying explosives
Jammu and Kashmir Under-22 cricketer Parvez Rasool, who was taken into custody by the city police following an explosive alarm by a bomb detector, was today cleared of charges following a forensic report. A top police official told UNI that the report from Forensic Sciences Laboratory said there was no residue of any explosives in the bag of Rasool. The youngster was taken into custody on October 17 after a bomb detector used in the Champions League T20 tournament picked up signal of possible explosives, which directed to room number 105 in the KSCA club house and to a bag belonging to the Jammu and Kashmir batsman. The bag was sent for a forensic examination while the cricketer was grilled for long hours by police. The incident left the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association officials dissapointed leading to protests. Even Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had reacted to the issue. Bangalore police and the Karnataka Cricket Association officials were accused of harassing the cricketer. The report was received today and several tests proved negative for explosives, the official said. Rasool's teammate Merajuddin, who stayed in the room had also been picked up by the police from the Chinnaswamy Stadium when the team had come to the city to play the C K Nayadu trophy match against the hosts. The cricketers were questioned and released by the police who cited lack of evidence. But Rasool's kit bag was sent for a forensic test. Showing great sportsmanship spirit, the J and K players had played the match despite the incident and Rasool had hit a resolute 62. The J and K players played the match wearing black badges.
