Court sentences a person to life imprisonmenmt

A lower court today sentenced one Shida Oram of Relaposh village under Bisra police station of Sundergarha district to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 under section 302 of the IPC for murdering Mangra Kuzur and his wife Jitin.

Additional Session Judge, Rourkela S C Mohapatra convicted Shida(35) for mudering Mangra (70) and Jitin(60) on September 18 last year while they were sleeping in their house.

According to reports Hantu, son of Mangra, and his wife shouted for help after they saw Shida assaulting his parents with an axe.

Soon neighbours Sukur Kuzur and Punei Oram chased and caught Shida with the axe and then handed him over to police.

Mangra and his wife were first taken to Bisra Hospital and then to Rourkela Government Hospital where both of them were declared brought dead.

The accused said he committed the murder as he believed that his wife died to witchcraft practised by the victim.
