Revenue Minister assure proper rehab for Renuka Dam Oustees

Himachal PWD and Revenue Minister Gulab Singh Thakur today claimed that the Renuka Dam power project is the first in country to prepare rehabilitation and resettlement package providing job to one person of each family, proper value of land, 100 units free power to each family of oustees and land in shopping complex among other measures, even before the start of the project.

While talking to media persons, the minister said the project would supply drinking water to the people of Delhi and the cost of the project would be borne by the Delhi Government. He said 40 MW Power would be generated from this project during peak day of rainy season.

He said cash money would be paid to those oustees who were unable to utilise the power provided free to them per month. He said that 70 per cent Himachalies would be given job while 100 per cent employment would be ensured for the oustees. He said 13 students of oustees had been sponsored in ITIs to get skill training and scholarship also being paid. He said 1.5 per cent of total project would be spent on local area development which would be deposited with Deputy Commissioner Sirmour and Rs One crore have already been deposited.

Mr Thakur said the Government would adopt same policy with those oustees who would be dislocated due to the establishment of big cement plants.

Earlier, the PWD Minister presided over state level closing ceremony of one week long Renuka fair night at Renuka Ji about 40 km from here.

A huge crowd of local residents as well as tourists witnessed the closing ceremony with the ''departure'' of Deities and Lord Parshuram for their permanent places.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Thakur said Renuka fair was well known in the northern India and pilgrims throng here from Punjab, Haryana, Utter Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Delhi, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir apart to seek blessing of the Renuka lake. The PWD Minister said state government had sanctioned Rs 96 crore for the construction of 43 link roads in Sirmour District. He said Rs 148 crore had been provided by World Bank for the widening 75 km road from Kumharhattti to Nahan.
