India Amendment in RTI Act beyond state govt's jurisdiction: Cong
The Bihar Congress today said any amendment in the Right to Information (RTI) Act was beyond the purview of the state government and the efforts of the government in this regard were ''unconstitutional''. Senior Congress leader and former chief spokesperson of Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) Prem Chandra Mishra here said the Nitish Kumar government was contemplating to amend the RTI Act which was beyond its jurisdiction. The Centre had the right to amend it, he added. He alleged that the government was apathetic towards implementation of the Act. It was mandatory for all the state governments to execute the Act within four months of its formation in October 2005, but till February 2006 it remained ineffective in Bihar, he added. The Act was implemented in the state following intervention of the Patna High court, he said, adding even after three years of execution of the Act, several posts in the Information Commission were still vacant. -- (UNI) -- 03CA45.xml
