Visakhapatnam | Tuesday, Nov 3 2009 IST

The banned CPI (Maoists), which has called for a two-day 'Bharat Bandh' to protest the Centre's 'Operation Green Hunt Godavari,' resorted to placing tyres across the ghat roads in the Agency Areas in the District blocking traffic in Pedhabeyulu Mandalam Kakarapadu Areas.

They also burnt a checkpost and resorted to violence in 11 Agency Mandals in Chinthapalli and G K Veedhi and other areas on the Andhra Orissa Border(AOB).

According to information reaching police here tonight, the Maoists would attempt a major operation to make their presence felt in the AOB.

Police sources said the Maoists had taken a serious note of the statement of Director General of Police R R Girish Kumar who had visited the Agency Area on October 29.

Visakha Range Deputy Inspector General(DIG) Sowmya Mishra told UNI here tonight the police were on high alert and ready to face any situation. The bandh call was nothing new and the Special Police Forces were ready to counter any attack, she added. Meanwhile, all three police superintendents of North Coastal Andhra were reviewing security arrangements made. MLAs, MPs and politicians in the region have been asked not to visit the agency areas without informing the police.
