India Glamorous diva role in 'Shortcut' an enjoyable experience: Amrita
She has been in news for her makeover, from a sweet girl-next-door in her earlier films like 'Ishq Vishq', 'The Legend Of Bhagat Singh', 'Vivaah' and 'Victory', to a glamorous diva in the just-released 'Shortcut'. It may be her first out-and-out glamorous role but for the pretty Amrita Rao, whose appearance in a variety of glitzy costumes in the film has been the ''talk of the tinsel town'', playing the role of the glam diva Mansi in 'Shortcut' was no different from doing any of her earlier roles. ''Mansi is a girl who is a part of the glamour industry. Having been a part of the film industry myself for a several years now, glamour is something I am quite familiar with. As an actress I feel one has to do what the role demands. The role in 'Shortcut' required me to come across as a glamorous girl and wear a variety of costumes. For, unlike a common person, actresses are perceived as larger than life and the character of Mansi had to reflect it,'' Amrita told UNI in an interview. ''It is a role that I thoroughly enjoyed portraying because it had a lot of variations to it. For one, the role gave me an opportunity to explore different costumes. Also, the feedback that I have been getting for my role in the film has been fantastic both from India as well as abroad. I am thankful to Neeraj Vora (the director) for giving me this role,''Amrita said. The actress is, however, quick to point out that this is not her first tryst with a glamorous role. ''My role in Farah Khan's 'Main Hoon Naa' too had a glamorous streak to it. Infact, the role of Sanjana in 'Main Hoon Naa' was such that there was a lot of score for looking glamorous. For example, in the film there is a sequence where my character Sanjana totally transforms herself,'' the actress says. She may be identified with ''sweet girl-next-door'' roles but Amrita says she is equally comfortable doing roles that were diametrically different from her 'girl-next-door' portrayals. ''My role in Shyam Benegal's 'Welcome To Sajjanpur' was diametrically different from my roles in 'Vivaah'. In that sense, all the roles that I have done have been different from one another,'' the actress said. Amrita said as an actress, she was looking forward to do roles reflecting the next youth generation. Among her forthcoming films is Dr Chandrarakash Dwivedi's 'The Legend of Kunal' where she shares screen space with superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Tabu and Arjun Rampal. ''It is a dream come true for me to share screen space with great actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu. Also, I am quite excited to be working with Dr Dwivedi, who earlier had directed a film like 'Pinjar'. Dr Dwivedi is a learned director and the kind of research that he has done on the life of King Ashoka's son Kunal for this movie is unbelievable, she said and added,''I cannot wait to start the film. I have always been intrigued by history and the past,'' Amrita said. -- (UNI) -- 17DI7.xml
