India Rajasthan demands 40 pc share in Central tax revenue
Rajasthan today urged the Centre to raise Its share in Central taxes revenue up to 40 per cent. The demand was raised by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot before the 13th Finance Commission held consultations with the state government in a meeting at the state secretariat here. Commission Chairman Dr Vijay Kelkar and other commission members were also present at the meeting. Mr Gehlot said the share of states in Central Taxes should be increased from present 30.5 per cent to 40 per cent. He said the states' share should be determined on the basis of the geographical area and per capita income. Besides, this should be on the basis of the population of 2001 instead of population of 1971, he added. He said the present Centre- state ratio of 75::25 per cent, provided for assistance under Calamity Relief Fund (CRF), should also be increased to 90::10 per cent The Chief Minister also said the right to employment under the relief works, apart from the 100 days employment under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), should be extended beyond limits in those districts, which face recurring famine and drought. -- (UNI) -- 22DR97.xml
