UP Guv dissents on CIC appointment of controversial Retd IAS Lucknow | Thursday, Feb 26 2009 IST
Expressing dissent on the proposal of appointment of the controversial retired IAS officer Ram Kumar as Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of the state today, Governor T V Rajeswar sent back the file for reconsideration. The name of 1976-batch officer was officially decided for the coveted post on February 20 and was sent to the state Governor. He had retired last year. Ram Kumar had been in controversies for several corruption charges levelled against him since 1995. In fact, the Kalyan Singh government in the state had suspended him in 1998 and the subsequent government had recommended for his dismissal from the services. The CIC is custodian of Right To Information (RTI) and the post aims to ensure transparency and accountability in working of all public authority, including the state government. An official spokesman told UNI that the state government had received back the re-consideration note of the Governor and a decision in this regard would be taken soon. He had first come into prominence as appointment secretary of UP during the first regime of Mayawati in 1995 -- (UNI) -- 26DR51.xml
