Nipping cold kills 27 more in UP, toll at 128 Lucknow | Saturday, Jun 7 2008 IST
Even as people were still awaiting respite from the chilly weather, the severe cold claimed 27 more lives overnight taking the toll to 128 in Uttar Pradesh. As per reports, 27 people have died of cold and foggy weather conditions in the last 24 hours. The fresh casualty comprised five in Gorakhpur, four in Kanpur, three each in Varanasi, Gonda and Fatehpur, while two each died in Basti, Barabanki and Sant Kabirnagar districts. One each fell prey to the cold weather in Siddharthnagar, Deoaria and Unnao. Meanwhile, movement of trains, flights and vehicles remained affected as the state was covered under the thick blanket of the fog. As per the railway sources, the long distant trains passing through Lucknow railway station were running last for two to eight hours from their scheduled time. UP Metereological Department said the weather was mainly dry in the state. Muzaffarnagar recorded the coldest at five degrees C celsius. -- (UNI) -- 07DR22.xml
