Night temperatures further rose in the north-west India today, following an overcast sky at many places in the region. The sky remained partially cloudy in several areas, resulting in the rise in the temperatures by two to seven degrees above normal. However, foggy weather continued in some areas in the region. The minimum temperartures rose in Punjab, staying two degrees to five degrees Celsius above normal at most places in the state. Despite increase in the temperatures, Amritsar was the coldest place in the state, recording the night temperature at 6.4 degrees Celsius. Patiala showed 11.4 degrees and Ludhiana 12.2 degrees, five degrees above normal. Narnaul in Mahendergarh district continued to be the coldest place in Haryana, recording the minimum temperature at 8.5 degrees Celsius, two degrees above normal. The night temperatures settled at 10. 5 degrees at Bhivani, 10.6 degrees at Karnal, 11.4 degrees at Ambala and 13.2 degrees at Hisar. Cold climatic conditions, however, persisted in Himachal Pradesh with cold wave lashing the tribal belt of the state following drop in the mercury. Kalpa in tribal Kinnaur district recorded the minimum at minus 0.5 degrees Celsius. Low clouds hung over the tribal areas and the 13050-feet high Rohtang Pass, gateway to tribal Lahaul Spiti district. The pass had been officially closed to vehicular traffic from November 15. The minimum temperatures dipped by few notches but hovered above normal at Bhuntar in Kullu district, recording 6.0 degrees Celsius while Sundernagar in Mandi district registered 5.8 degrees. However, the temperature increased at tourist resort of Manali from 4.6 degrees to 5.6 degrees, which was six degrees above normal. The capital town of Shimla also recorded a rise in the temperature to 9.6 degrees, six degrees above normal. Kashmir Valley reeled under cold climatic conditions with the minimum temperature remaining almost static at Srinagar recording 4.7 degrees, seven degrees above normal. The minimum, however, declined at Jammu but stayed above normal, recording 11.2 degrees Celsius. The night temperature dipped to 10.4 degrees in Chandigarh. The sky was partially cloudy in the city. The weather Office predicted rain or snow at few places in Himachal Pradesh, rain or thundershowers at isolated palces in Punjab and clear sky in Haryana during the next 24 hours. -- (UNI) -- 18DR73.xml
