TTD signs MoU with SVVU on cattle wealth development
Tirumala | Friday, Dec 5 2008 IST

To protect the dwindling cattle wealth and also augment of the cow milk production from 1500 l to 6000 l, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams(TTD) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tirupati-based Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) two days ago, TTD Executive officer K V Ramanachary said here today.

Talking to mediapersons during the 'Dial your EO' programme here, he said that as per the MoU held between him and SVVU Vice Chancellor D V G Krishnamohan in the presence of State Animal Husbandry Minister Buddha Prasad and TTD Trust Board Chairman D K Audikesavulu Naidu, the Sri Venkateswara Integrated Goshala would be developed by the varsity at its 700 acres of land, located a Palamaner in Chittoor district, as a model centre for pure breed of indigenous cattles.

The main aim of the MoU was to produce pure wholesome cow's milk to meet all the requirements of the temple of Lord Venkateswara Swamy, other TTD-run temples in and around Tirupati and its allied institutions, besides protection of the non-milking cows, he said.

Another major fallout of the MoU would be a joint effort for the R&D on the scientific analysis of the 'Panchagavya', byproducts of the cow-- milk, curd, ghee, dung and urine for use in agriculture, veterinary and human health care, he added.

The existing TTD-run dairy farm, with a strength of 150 cows is able to provide only 1,500 l against a requirement of 6,000 l per day, he added.
