Conman nabbed, 3 mobile phones seized in AP Hyderbad | Sunday, Oct 19 2008 IST
The city police apprehended a person responsible for cheating prominent people, including politicians, government officials and businessman, and seized three mobile phones and incriminating documentary evidence. The victims included ministers J C Diwakar Reddy, Gali Janardhan Reddy and Srimulu of Karnataka State, Legislators of A P Komati Reddi, Venkat Reddy, MLA Nalagonda. According to police, the accused M R B V Subramaneshwara Sharma alias Ravi Kumar, native of Amlapuram in east Godavari district, tricked them into parting with lakhs of rupees. Ravi, son of a retired Assistant General Manager of District Co-operative Central Bank, Kakinada, led the victims to believe that he was an MLA from Burugupudi constituency, police said. He then allegedly used to ring them up impersonating a legislator and tell them fake stories about his child losing money in a journey and request them to deposit money in his child's bank account assuring to repay it soon, police added. Later, he would withdraw the amount deposited by the unsuspecting people and disappear.
