Punjabi columnist, Seona shot dead in Punjab Patiala | Jumat, Sep 12 2008 IST
A former general secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and Punjabi columnist, Darbara Singh Seona was shot dead by two unidentified motorcyclists here this evening. The incident occurred in the Sant Nagar locality, when Seona was going for some work. Two persons on a motorcycle fired three shots at him. The Seona was seriously injured and was rushed to local Rajindra Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. SSP SK Asthana, while confirming the shooting incident said a case had been registered and efforts are being made to nab the culprits. Mr Seona, who writes for a Punjabi vernacular newspaper was attacked by Sikh hard-liners on May 25 this year in Amritsar. The hard liners sought a public apology for his write-up wherein hehad allegedly made some controversial remarks on Sikh history and the Sikh scripture, Guru Granth Sahib. -- (UNI) -- 12DR89.xml
