WAC retain Air Force hockey trophy Chandigarh | Friday, Aug 8 2008 IST
Western Air Command (WAC) retained the Air Force hockey title by beating Central Air Command (CAC) by two first half goals in the final match played at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium here today. Kiskota scored both goals for WAC in the 20th and the 27th minutes. WAC could have won the final with a handsome margin had they converted the chances which came their way. They forced 15 penalty corners but failed to convert any of these chances. Satvir Singh, though played an inspiring game and kept the forwards on their toes with regular supply, found CAC goalkeeper Y K Pant a hard nut to crack. Satvir either shot wide or straight into the pads of alert Pant. South Western Air Command (SWAC) bagged the third spot by beating Training Command (TC) by a 3-1 margin in a match played earlier today. Another classification match played between Maintenance Command (MC) and Eastern Air Command (EAC) where MC beat EAC 2-1 to be placed at the fifth position in the tournament. The names of the players selected for Air Force hockey team coaching camps were also announced on the occasion, which include Naveen Kumar [TC], Samer Kumar [TC], Arun Kumar [SWAC], Sharma[SWAC], Shyam Sunder[ MC], Ramaranjan [Air HQ], Anil Joshi [SAC], M Singh [TAC], Siqueria [TAC] and Minhas [CAC]. They will attend a coaching camp in preparations for their participation in the Services Hockey Championship to be held in Mumbai in September. -- (UNI) -- 08SPD70.xml
