Taslima a "Jew agent" : Imam
Kolkata | Friday, Aug 8 2008 IST

Branding controversial Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen as a ''Jew agent'', Shami Imam of Tipu Sultan Masjid S M Naroor Rahman Barkati today threatened to launch agitation throughout the country if the Centre did not send her back from India immediately.

'' We are not in favour of her return. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and the Centre have assured us that she will not return again to India, but their assurances have failed and the 25 crore Muslims are very much hurt after her arrival to the country.

We will not accept her at any cost, '' Imam told newspersons here.

He said if she continued her stay, massive agitation would take place across the country and the Centre would be held responsible for this.

'' India is a secular country and we feel that all the communities will stay here peacefully, but the Congress is a non-secular party and they were responsible for the Mumbai riots, Golden Temple and the Babri Masjid demolition incidents, '' he said.

'' I will ask the Muslim community not to vote in favour of the Congress in the future, if it does not cancel the visa of the author and send her back from the country immediately, '' the Imam said.

The Muslim community will wear black badges and shown black flags to Mr Mukherjee tomorrow.
