Modi blames Centre for not providing electricity to Guj

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today blamed the Union Government for not providing electricity from the Central grid to the state. Addressing a large gathering here after distributing prize money to 188 brilliant girl students of the Rajkot district for outstanding performance in their examinations, the Chief Minister alleged that the Centre gave 500 MW electricity from its grid to Maharashtra, but did not care for Gujarat, which is facing shortfall due to scanty rainfall. He said the state government was in a position to manage on its own without getting aid from the Centre. Scores of gifts, which he had received from people as chief minister, had been deposited in the state's treasury. The gifts were auctioned and generated revenue of Rs 15 crore, which the state could use for the education of girl students under the Kanya Kelavani scheme. He said the Gujarat government's endavour to educate girls had yielded good results. As a result, the girls students had excelled in the recently announced results of Std X and XII. Concluding his speech, Mr Modi condemned the serial bomb blasts in Bangalore, saying that he had repeatedly appealed to the Prime Minister to call a meeting of all Chief Ministers to create national consensus on terrorism. 'Swarnim Gujarat Sankal Jyot Rath' as part of Gujarat's Golden Jubilee celebration of 2010 arrived here today after travelling 60 cities since May 1. On the occasion, he called upon the people to take pledge for the benefit of in all aspects such as to save energy, to build literate state and green state. Under the theme of 'Kanya Kelavani Abhiyan', 185 brilliant girl students of the district received Rs 5,000 as prize money and three girls -- Sangeeta Bhalodia, Mayuri Bagthariya and Ami Tanna -- received Rs 10,000 each as prize money for their selections in the Civil Services. -- (UNI) -- 25BY29.xml
